Hours:
The store is open 6 days per week. Generally, the Manager will work a minimum five-day schedule with support of a Store Assistant Manager who is on a different five-day schedule, with a four-day overlap. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, hours of operation may vary.
Position
Summary:
Reporting to and under general supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, this role acts as a front-line resource with responsibility for the guiding activities at the Thrift Store which fulfill the mission of the Salvation Army, particularly in cooperation with, and in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager.
Responsibilities
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Assist Store Manager in all Thrift Store operations which directly impact profitability and funding, including marketing, merchandising, donations, employee/volunteer scheduling and supervision. Act as back-up and first in charge in absence of Store Manager.
Specific Functions:
Staff Management:
Assist Store Manager in training, counseling, and disciplinary actions of store staff.
Assist in implementation of store organization and operating plan.
Responsible for supervising volunteer and community service staff in absence of Store Manager.
Assist store manager in scheduling to gain effective utilization of personnel. Maintain record of hours worked and process payroll and required paperwork for community service workers in absence of Store Manager.
Marketing:
Assist in maintaining community relationships that will further a donor base and a customer base.
Assist in implementing and maintaining marketing and merchandising plan that has customer appeal and price competitive.
Assist in developing, maintaining and implementing sales incentives through sales promotions, discounts, advertisements and other promotions.
Financial Accountability:
Ensure against loss of receivables and donor items.
Assist in the maintenance of records (store income, expense, employee schedules and issues, etc.)
Understand and implement store policy on unlawful customer activity (shoplifting).
Property Management:
Responsible for maintaining the facility in a clean, neat and safe condition.
Report any repairs or maintenance needs promptly to management.
Customer Relations:
Maintain professional customer relations standards for all employees.
Work with donors to resolve problems
Expectations:
Meet as requested with the Corps Officers to review profitability and human resource issues.
Work in a cooperative manner with the Officers, employees, volunteers, community service workers, customers, donors and members of the public.
Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
Qualifications
High school or equivalent; related degree preferred (such as major in Accounting, Business, Marketing, or related area).
Three years experience in retail sales which includes one year experience in as Assistant Manager, Supervisor or team lead in a retail sales operation. Thrift Store experience is a definite plus.
Prior supervisory experience required.
Life experience working with people from diverse populations.
Ability to meet and maintain The Salvation Army Driver Qualification.
Ability to meet physical requirements of the position; extensive standing, walking, reaching. Bending and lifting up to 40 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Bi-lingual English / Spanish, very desirable.
Knowledge of basic office equipment and use of computer.
Figure and detail oriented. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities (in the sole discretion of The Salvation Army) may be considered in lieu of the above.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
